Collections

Three collections of nativity figures, each with its own world.

A biblical Nativity set in the 1st century, a Madrid popular nativity scene in the age of Galdós, and a set of Catalan popular figures. Every figure has its own page, with what had to be looked at before it was created.

Nativity of the Biblical Nativity collection: Joseph, standing and leaning forward, covers with his cloak the seated Mary, who holds the Child in her arms.

Biblical Nativity

Nazareth, Bethlehem and Jerusalem in the first third of the 1st century: what people wore, what houses they lived in, what they lit them with. The research is in the Manual; the figures are in this collection.

Madrid Popular Nativity Scene

The Madrid of the turn of the century, the Madrid of Galdós: the water-seller, the night watchman, the people of the street, each with a document, an engraving or a photograph behind them.

Catalan popular figures

An open studio

These collections are not finished, and there is no waiting for them to be finished before showing them. This is a sculpture studio at work, and each figure goes up when it exists, as on a channel or a blog: what there is gets published, not what there will be. The existing figures were modelled in 3D with ZBrush between 2021 and 2023, with dozens of hours in each, and they remain as they were conceived. Since October 2026 every new figure is modelled directly in clay: a single piece fired in terracotta, at 1/6 scale, polychromed or not. The camera records every time the clay changes shape, from the first lump to the signature, and I am in the recording, modelling and explaining what I am doing. That is what is shown, and it is shown without pretending. For anyone who wants to learn to model, it is also a lesson. Why it is done this way, with its cases and its dates, is in the chapter Form without an author of the Manual.
