What cookies are
Cookies are small files that a website or external service may store in your browser when you visit a page. They can remember preferences, support certain technical functions or provide information about how a site is used.
Cookies may be first-party, when managed by this site, or third-party, when set or managed by an external provider. Some disappear when the browser is closed, while others remain for a specified period.
How this site uses cookies
This site distinguishes three categories:
- A necessary first-party cookie to remember your privacy choices.
- YouTube cookies and technologies to play the videos cited in the Manual, if you allow them.
- Google Analytics 4 cookies to obtain usage statistics, if you allow them.
YouTube and Google Analytics 4 are independent purposes. You may accept one, both or neither.
Emili Solé does not use advertising cookies. Google Analytics advertising features, Google Signals and ad personalization signals are switched off, and the Analytics property is not linked to Google Ads. Google, however, documents that some YouTube cookies may be used for advertising purposes depending on each visitor’s account settings; this is set out below.
Necessary cookie
emilisole_cookie_consent
This is a necessary first-party cookie. It records separately whether you have allowed the videos cited from YouTube and the Google Analytics 4 statistics.
Its value contains a technical format version and the values of those two choices. It does not contain your name, email address or any other identifying information supplied directly by you.
- Controller
- Emili Solé
- Purpose
- Remembering privacy preferences.
- Duration
- 6 months.
- Settings
- Restricted to the site path, with
SameSite=Lax and the Secure attribute over HTTPS.
Because this cookie is required to manage your choice, it cannot be disabled in the site panel. You can delete it in your browser; if you do, the site will ask you to choose your preferences again.
Audiovisual content from YouTube
Videos of Emili Solé’s own work are served from this same domain and need no permission: they always play. What does need permission are the cited videos: the Manual of Nativity-Scene Art and Practice reproduces, in support of its argument, videos by others hosted on YouTube, a Google service.
The players do not load before you allow them. Until then, this site opens no connection to YouTube from your browser.
When you allow this purpose, the players load from youtube-nocookie.com, the domain Google offers for privacy-enhanced mode. That mode does not remove cookies: it defers them. They are not set when the page opens, but when playback begins. YouTube may then receive technical information about the connection and the device, record the playback and use its own cookies.
Cookies the player may use
__Secure-YNID- Detecting and resolving service problems. Duration stated by Google: 6 months.
__Secure-YENID- The same purpose, with a different duration. Duration stated by Google: 13 months.
PREF- Stores playback preferences. Duration stated by Google: 8 months from last use.
VISITOR_INFO1_LIVE- May enable personalized recommendations based on past views and searches. Duration stated by Google: 6 months from last use.
YSC- Session cookie with a security function. Duration: the browsing session.
Emili Solé does not use advertising cookies. Google, however, documents that some of these cookies may be used for advertising purposes depending on each visitor’s account settings. This is not a decision of this site and brings Emili Solé no benefit, but it happens in the browser of whoever allows it, and so it is stated here rather than left unsaid. It is also why this permission is asked for separately and can be withdrawn at any time.
YouTube cookies belong to an external domain and their characteristics may be changed by that provider. See Google’s information on how it uses cookies and the Google privacy policy.
Usage statistics with Google Analytics 4
This site uses Google Analytics 4, measurement ID G-TTV4J7TZYM, to obtain aggregated information about the pages people visit and how they move through the site. Its editorial purpose is to identify which parts of the Manual of Nativity-Scene Art and Practice should be expanded, clarified or reorganised.
A basic consent implementation is used: the Google Analytics tag is not downloaded and no information is sent to Google before you expressly allow this purpose.
Once allowed, Google Analytics may process information such as pages visited, interactions, the approximate date of the visit and technical details about the browser and device. Google states that it uses IP addresses to provide geographic information and protect the service, but does not log or store individual IP addresses in Google Analytics.
Google Analytics 4 cookies
_ga- Distinguishes users. On this site its maximum duration is set to 6 months.
_ga_TTV4J7TZYM- Preserves session state for this property. It is also limited to 6 months.
The expiry may be renewed from the most recent visit while consent remains active. Browsers may impose shorter limits.
Data retention and use
The property retains event data for 2 months and user-associated data for 14 months. The latter period restarts when new activity occurs. These periods are not cookie lifetimes and do not affect standard reports based on aggregated data in the same way.
All four general account data-sharing settings are enabled: Google products and services, modelling contributions and business insights, technical support, and recommendations for your business. Google states that when “Google products and services” is enabled, it may access and analyse shared data to improve its products and acts as an independent controller for that use.
See Google’s official information about Google Analytics 4 cookies, data-sharing settings, data safeguards and the Google Privacy Policy.
Accepting, rejecting or changing your preferences
On your first visit you can continue without optional services, configure YouTube and Google Analytics 4 separately, or accept both services. Refusing is as simple as accepting.
You can change or withdraw your consent at any time using the “Settings” button next to Cookies in the footer. Withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out beforehand.
When you withdraw permission for Google Analytics, the site prevents new measurements and deletes the _ga and _ga_* cookies it can remove from its own domain.
Cookies that YouTube has set on its own domains cannot be removed technically from this site. You can delete them through your browser’s privacy settings or through the mechanisms Google provides.
International data transfers
Google LLC, the certified entity, is established in the United States. Google states that it adheres to the EU–US Data Privacy Framework and provides further information about its international transfers in its privacy policy.
Google may process information on servers outside your country of residence. Google states that it uses the applicable legal mechanisms, including adequacy decisions, the EU–US Data Privacy Framework and Standard Contractual Clauses where appropriate.
See the current information on the legal frameworks Google uses and its privacy policy.
Browser settings
You can also view, block or delete cookies through your browser’s privacy settings. If you delete the preference cookie, the site will display the consent panel again.
Blocking cookies in general may affect certain browser functions or external services. This site’s own content will remain readable without YouTube or Google Analytics.
Changes to this policy
This policy will be reviewed whenever the cookies, providers, purposes or service settings change.
If a change affects an authorised purpose or requires fresh consent, the previous choice will be invalidated and you will be asked to decide again.
